Recently Gotham Film Works took delivery of the first SHOTOVER K1 HAMMERHEAD Aerial Camera Array.
Over the last several years I’ve been specializing in long form, high resolution, large format aerial cinematography. For the first shoot with this new aerial array we rigged the system with 3X RED Weapon Monstro 8K VV cameras, which once processed creates stunning 100 megapixel motion picture images with a sensor size of approximately 645 Medium Format Film.
The resulting 12K by 8K footage is 48.5 times the resolution of HD 1080p and full of captured detail.
This is an 8K export of the footage. Best viewed in 4K or 8K full screen.

Turkish Air
Photograph by Francois Nadeau, National Geographic Your Shot
“You cannot go to Cappadocia without taking a trip in a hot-air balloon and making some pictures—it’s a must!” writes photographer Francois Nadeau. “Most of the photographers were taking shots of the sunrise, the landscape, etc. But I was also attracted to what was under me—the patterns, the little villages. So while I was taking pictures of other balloons and the sunrise and filming at the same time, I was keeping an eye under me for the best shot.”
Nadeau’s picture recently appeared in Your Shot’s Daily Dozen.

Over the Delta
Photograph by Hans Strand, National Geographic Your Shot
“I was shooting for my upcoming book on Iceland and hired a pilot to fly me over the highlands,” writes Your Shot contributor Hans Strand. “In the far distance I saw this inspiring river delta over Hvítarvatn near Langjökull glacier and directed the pilot to make a few laps over it. We flew three 360-degree laps at about a 400-meter [1,300-foot] altitude right over the delta, and I concentrated on getting a good frame. The wind coming from Langjökull was very strong, which made the airplane very turbulent, and after the three laps I had to give up and fly back to Reykjavík due to airsickness. Luckily, I got what I wanted.”
